NPA leader killed, 1 High-powered firearm seized in MisOr

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – A leader of the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNT) was killed in action and one high-powered firearm was seized by the 58th Infantry Battalion during an encounter at the hinterlands of Sitio Mangelit, Brgy Bal-ason, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, thursday, March 18, 2021.

The encounter occurred at around 12 noon as the 58IB acted on a report of concerned citizens on the presence of armed rebels in their area.

The identity of the male cadaver is withheld until his family is informed. The slained rebel was identified by his former comrades as a Terrorist leader of Sub Regional Sentro De Grabidad of the Subregional Command 1 of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee. The troops recovered the male combatant who had been abandoned on a ravine and left to die on-site of the battle.The troops recovered one M16 rifle, two magazine for M16, four magazines for M14, three rifle grenade, assorted medicines, personal belongings, subversive documents and two backpacks.

Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Ricky Canatoy, Commanding Officer of the Army’s 58IB, offers his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased NPA rebel. “Another life is lost in the war against the Communist NPA Terrorists’ (CNTs) failed ideology.”

He also expressed gratitude to concerned citizens who provided credible information in order to deter the CNTs from carrying out their terrorist activities. He also urged the remaining NPA fighters to give up their weapons, return to the folds of the law, and avail the government programs. “I sincerely hope that an increasing number of NPA rebels will now surrender and stop believing the lies and deceptions implanted in your minds. Do so for the sake of your own life and to escape an untimely death. It’s not too late yet. You may still surrender and return to the folds of the law. Similarly, your Army will continue to work to ensure the safety and security of all in the communities,” he concluded.
