CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – An encounter transpired between the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and the troops of 58th Infantry Dimalulupig Battalion at the hinterlands, Barangay San Juan, Gingoog City morning of October 13, 2021.
It can be recalled that last September 16, the top leaders of the NPA in Misamis Oriental, Sub-Regional Committee 1, Mosong and Maya, were apprehended and their revelations were used to launch successful focused military operations that resulted to 2 armed engagements last September 27-28
Recently,58IB troops encountered roughly 20 Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) while conducting combat operations against SRC1 at around 5 in the morning. During the course of fire, one soldier sacrificed his life, and casualty on the enemy side was yet to be determined. However, extensive bloodstains were discovered at the encounter site as reported by troops pursuing the CNTs.
Lt. Col. Ricky L Canatoy, Commanding Officer of 58IB, said, “Since the capture of Mosong and Maya, the top leaders of Sub-Regional Committee 1 (SRC1) last month, we were able to extract vital information as to their next intentions and likely dispositions of the remnants of SRC1. Since then, 58IB’s combat operations have been ramped up, and non-stop, with forces chasing down the armed group to prevent them from disrupting the peace and committing terrorist acts.”

That is why it grieves me greatly that another life, a comrade, was sacrificed in the service of this noble cause. This is the reality: bringing peace and order comes with great sacrifices. However, this will not stop us from doing our sworn duty to protect the peace in our land.” Lt. Col. Canatoy ended.
The identity of the fallen soldier will be withheld until his family is notified.
