2 CPP-NPA Terrorists dead in clash anew with 4ID troops in MisOr

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – On February 18, 2022, two (2) CPP-NPA Terrorists died in an encounter with the troops of 402nd Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army under BGen Adonis Ariel Orio at Brgy Odiongan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

The fatalities were identified Jelan Pinakilid and his wife Darling. Seized from them were one (1) cal.45 pistol and a hand grenade.

Jelan is facing multiple charges including Attempted murder, Frustrated murder, Illegal possession of firearms, Genocide, Anti-trafficking in Person Act of 2003 and other crimes against Humanity and International Humanitarian Law, issued by RTC Butuan City.

It can be recalled that on February 17, another encounter also occurred at Minlanag, Brgy Lawaan, Gingoog City between 58th Infantry Battalion troopers under 402nd Brigade and the Communist Terrorist Group, which resulted in the death of a ranking CTG leader named Renerio Dablo and the seizure of two (2) M16 rifles.

Likewise, on February 18, another ranking CTG leader named Maria Natividad Marian Castro was arrested by joint elements of 401st Infantry Brigade under Colonel Rommel Almaria for the crime of Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention.

In a statement, MGen Wilbur C Mamawag, 4ID Commander, reiterated his call for the remaining NPA members to peacefully turn themselves in, as he assured their safety.

“We are saddened every time Filipino lives are lost due to this senseless armed struggle. I believe that only in an environment of peace can we resolve the conflict and fully develop our nation. Hence, I reiterate our call for the remaining NPAs to give up fighting and instead avail of the government’s reintegration program under the E-CLIP.” MGen Mamawag said.
