NPA rebel killed in clash in Agusan Norte

BANCASI, Butuan City – A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed during an encounter with the troops of 12th Scout Ranger Company of 4th Scout Ranger Battalion, an Operational Control unit under 402nd Infantry (STINGERS) Brigade at Brgy Macalang, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on 04 May 2022.

The Army troops while conducting combat operations encountered more or less 20 Communist Terrorists that resulted to the neutralization of one (1) CNT dead at the encounter site along with the seizure of three (3) AK47 rifles; subversive documents; and other personal belongings. On the other hand, the said enemy groups were conducting extortion activities and imposing permit-to-campaign and permit-to-win (PTC/PTW) to candidates of the 2022 Local and National Elections. They are continuously doing violent activities that urge these local candidates to give in to their demands.

Moreover, a former rebel identified the fatality as Peter Pinakilid, a Political and Finance Officer of former Guerilla Front 4A; a member of Platoon Sagay of Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) 3; and the biological father of the most notorious NPA rebel, Jelan Pinakilid aka Baking who died in an encounter with the troops of 58IB last 18 February 2022.

Meanwhile, BGen Adonis Ariel Orio uttered, “We are saddened that another life had to be wasted as ensued from a long senseless armed struggle that these NPA terrorists are still fighting for. The death of Peter and Jelan Pinakilid is a clear manifestation of their desperate move to generate funds and sustain their necessities by extorting from other people and taking advantage of the upcoming local and national election. I encourage each and every one of you to be vigilant and cautious while performing your respective duties come May 9, 2022. Also, I am calling those remaining leaders and members to avoid the same fate, to lay down their arms, and give their children a better future. However, we will continue to hunt the enemies down and we will always be true to our commitment of ending more than 5 decades of insurgency.”
