4ID, DSWD-10 donates shoes to GIDAs in Region 10

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 10 facilitated the distribution of 287 pairs of school shoes donated by SM Foundation Inc. at Pigpamulahan Elementary School, So Mahayag, Barangay St Peter, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on May 24, 2022.

The said activity was the second in a series of distribution initiatives from May 20 – June 4, 2022 and the beneficiaries were members of the Umayamnon tribe in Bukidnon. It was spearheaded by Director Mari-Flor A Dollaga-Libang, Regional Director of DSWD-10 together with a representative from SM Foundation Inc. and 4ID Officials led by Col. Ian Noel P Ignes, the Assistant Chief of Staff for CMO, G7 and Lt. Col. Anthony Bacus, Commanding Officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion.

Col Ignes said that 4ID identified the beneficiaries through the Community Support Program (CSP) teams with the aim to address the needs of Elementary and High School students residing in the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in Northern Mindanao region. He disclosed that the 4ID thru the 58IB already distributed a total of 499 pairs of shoes at Umagos Elementary School in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental last May 20.

It can be recalled that the SM Foundation Inc. as part of their corporate social responsibility, has donated a total of 3,811 pairs of school shoes thru the DSWD Field Office – 10 during their 71st Founding Anniversary Celebration last March 25, 2022, held at 4ID Gymnasium, Camp Evangelista, Patag Cagayan de Oro.

Mr. Evernold C. Beriel, the District School Supervisor, expressed his gratitude to 4ID, DSWD, and SM Foundation Inc. for the said donations which will ensure a child’s feet is protected from infection and injuries. He also said that these shoes will help children build their self-esteem and optimism in attending classes and would help reduce the financial burden of parents.

In his statement, Major General Wilbur C Mamawag, Commander of 4ID, commended the act of generosity of the SM Foundation and the resolve of partner government agencies such as the DSWD to assist and support communities that are vulnerable from communist terrorist group influence. He vows to strengthen the partnership and commitment from different stakeholders in order to bring more services to the community and motivate each students in GIDAs to finish their education.
