San Miguel, Surigao del Sur – A CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) was killed and three (3) high-powered firearms were captured after an armed encounter between the troops of 75th Infantry (Marauder) Battalion and members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in an uninhabited area at Sitio Panukmuan, Barangay Diatagon, Lianga, Surigao del Sur early in the morning of August 25, 2022.
The government troops were alerted by a concerned citizen who reported to the troops the presence of CNTs in the area. The troops immediately conducted security operation and encountered ten (10) CNTs believed to be involved in extortion activities in Surigao del Sur. The said encounter happened at around 7:50 in the morning which resulted in the death of one (1) CNT; capture of one (1) AK47 Rifle; one (1) M4 Rifle; one (1) Carbine cal.30; and other war materials.
The slain CNT was identified as Adring Acevido aka DIEGO, 49 years old and from Sitio Nalindog, Brgy Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. His cadaver was brought by the troops to Duran Funeral Homes in Brgy Poblacion, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur for proper disposition.
Lieutenant Colonel Jelson D Buyuccan, Commanding Officer of 75lB said, “It’s an unfortunate event that resulted in the death of another CTG member. As much as possible, we would like them to surrender so that they will have a chance to change their lives with their loved ones by returning to the folds of law and avail of the E-CLIP.”
“To the remaining CTG members in Surigao del Sur, heed our call, surrender peacefully and avail of the E-CLIP of the government. We will help you with open arms and together we will end this nonsense conflict and achieve a long lasting peace,” Lt. Col. Buyuccan added.
