Talacogon, Agusan del Sur – Three (3) AK47 rifles were captured by the operating troops of 26th Infantry Battalion in an encounter against Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) that occurred in the hinterlands of Barangay Mahagsay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur on November 09, 2022. The presence of the CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNT) was reported by the locals to the troops of this unit, thus a focused military operation was launched leading to the armed engagement between operating troops of Bravo Company and CNTs believed to be members of Platoon Sagay, SRC3, NCMRC.
According to the locals, the armed group extorted food stuffs from rice and corn farmers in the nearby barangays who have just sold their harvest. After minutes of fierce firefight, the troops captured three (3) AK47 rifles from the escaping enemies. In a statement, Lt Col Sandy R Majarocon, Commanding Officer of this unit said that the CTG encountered by the operating troops came from other areas outside the responsibility of the unit and entered the area to look for their other comrades who already surrendered and to extort food stuffs from the locals.
He attributed the success of the operation to the locals who really supported the Army and believed in peace. “It is a clear proof of the locals’ trust on us to protect them, and for that, we will continue to intensify our initiatives and efforts to safeguard our people especially in far-flung communities,” he said. “Akong giawhag ang mga nahabilin pang mga myembro sa CPP-NPA nga mo-surrender na, undangon na nila ang pagpanggubot ug panghadlok sa katawhan, ug mangamuyo nga malinawon. Ang kasundalohan andam pirmi ug dili magduha-duha sa paggamit sa tibuok pwersa para mapukan ang mga grupong nagpadayon sa ilang teroristang kalihokan dinhi sa sulod ug palibot nga mga kumunidad,” he ended.
