𝗡𝗣𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 s𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿

Carascal, Surigao del Sur – An NPA Terrorist, and a member of the Sentro De Grabidad 16 (SDG16), Weakened Guerilla Front 30 (WGF30), North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) voluntarily surrendered to 36th Infantry “Valor” Battalion, Philippine Army on May 7, 2023.

The said NPA member were identified as Jonas Maayo Angeles also known as Remboy/Angel/Andres, 28 years of age with live-in partner identified as Inday Sampaga @Ilen who is also a member of Sentro De Grabidad 16 (SDG16), Weakened Guerilla Front 30 (WGF30), North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) both residents of Brgy Pantukan, Carascal, Surigao del Sur.

The surrenderee brought with him one (1) M16A1 (AR 18), and one magazine with twenty (20) rounds of 5.56mm ammunition. According to him, being low morale, no sense of direction, lack of support from the masses and exhaustion made him realize to give up and peacefully surrender to the troops of 36IB.

Moreover, said surrenderee stayed in the Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) organization for nine (9) months. With the series of encounters with the government forces, he decided to surrender due to his sustained gunshot wound during an encounter last April 15, 2023 at Brgy Esperanza, Carmen, Surigao del sur.

Lt. Col. Michael Rey S. Reuyan, Commanding Officer of 36IB reiterated that it is the result of relentless combat operations and support of the communities in the 36IB that aided in this surrender. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa suporta at impormasyong ibinahagi ng mga taga Carascal, Surigao del Sur upang ating matunton ang pinagtataguanng mga Terorristang grupo. Nawa’y patuloy niyong supportahan ang ating mga kasundaluhan sa ating misyon na panatilihin ang kapayapaan sa Surigao del Sur. Also we are very grateful that the CNT’s have now decided to return to the folds of the law where they can start a new life with their families as ordinary citizens have experiencing. With the increasing numbers of surrenderees that the unit have aided, rest assured that your Philippine Army and the Provincial Government of Surigaol del Sur will do our part for the safety and security of the surrendered CNTs.,” Lt Col Reuyan said.

Likewise, the 901st Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. George L. Banzon PA reminded the CNTs to end their fruitless propaganda, ”This continuous pursuit of revolution should now stop. It is not yet too late to educate yourself and not be alluded to the flowery words of the enemies. Let us stop the insurgency, let us stop these acts of terrorism and the killings”, BGen Banzon emphasized.
