The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division awarded the Wounded Personnel Medal (WPM) to the two (2) recuperating soldiers who were wounded in a recent clash with the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Malitbog, Bukidnon, last June 28, 2023.
4ID Commander, Major General Jose Maria R Cuerpo II, accompanied by Brigadier General Joel M Paloma, the Assistant Division Commander, and Senior Master Sergeant Johnny S Escolta, the Division Sergeant Major of 4ID, led the pinning of WPM to Private First Class Jovany G Batuna Junior of the 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion who is confined at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, on June 3, 2023.
Meanwhile, Private First Class Junnie C Bitsusa, also from 16IB, will be receiving his medals once discharged from the Intensive care units (ICUs) in one of the hospitals in the City due to his serious condition.
Major General Jose Maria R Cuerpo II recognized the sacrifices and unwavering determination of the two soldiers in the performance of their mandated duty.
He also lauded the two soldiers’ selfless dedication and patriotism in securing the communities and protecting the people against the atrocities and deceptive recruitment of minors by the CTG. Likewise, he assured the soldiers of the 4ID’s full support through financial assistance and quality health care.
The Wounded Personnel Medal is given to soldiers injured while fighting the enemy or a direct result of an enemy attack and those who have exemplified bravery, military professionalism, and heroism in their mandate.
