The 4th Infantry Division joined the Office of the Civil Defense Northern Mindanao and the city government of Cagayan de Oro as it kicked off the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month through the conduct of a “Run for Resilience” at the CDO Boulevard on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
Students of the 4ID’s Restructured Reenlistment Training (RRT) actively participated in the 3-kilometer and 5-kilometer run along with other run enthusiasts coming from different government agencies such as the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coastguard, Department of Education, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Agriculture and other national agencies and individuals coming from different walks of life.
Runners who placed in the top 10 were awarded while groups from the uniformed service who participated in the platoon run were also recognized. All other agencies were also given certificates of commendation.
OCD-10 Regional Director Antonio B. Sugarol said the activity aimed to drumbeat awareness not only on disaster preparations but also in becoming united when facing disasters.
Meanwhile, 4ID Commander Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II vowed to fully support the advocacy as it will help in raising awareness on the significance of strong partnership and cooperation among government agencies to overcome challenges not only on matters pertaining to peace and security but also on emerging disasters that will lead to a more resilient region.
The Run for Resilience marked the start of a month-long observance of the National Disaster Resilience month anchored on the theme “BiDang Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being towards Disaster Resilience,” which commits to fostering a resilient community in Northern Mindanao that can withstand any disaster.
