4ID Joins Nationwide Blood Drive, Honoring 89th AFP Anniversary with Life-Saving Commitment

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City — The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division participated in a nationwide blood donation drive on December 8, 2024, to commemorate the 89th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) held at the 4ID Montalvan Hall in Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City.

The blood donation drive, themed “Dugong Alay Mo, Sandigan ng Buhay Ko,” was organized as part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) ongoing commitment to saving lives, especially those needing medical assistance during emergencies. The initiative attracted a strong turnout, with personnel from various 4ID offices, tenant units, Operational Control (OpCon) units, dependents, and civilian human resources, all coming together to support this vital cause.

About 480 donors from the Diamond Troopers participated in the blood drive, collectively donating 207 blood bags, which amounts to a total volume of 93,150 cubic centimeters (cc) of blood. This generous response will help ensure hospitals have the critical blood supplies needed, so patients requiring urgent medical care can access life-saving resources.

The opening ceremony was led by Colonel Cesar J. Conte Jr., Chief of Staff of the 4th Infantry Division (4ID). During the event, Colonel Conte Jr. expressed his deep appreciation for the generosity and solidarity shown by all participants. He emphasized the significant role of the 4ID in supporting humanitarian efforts and noted that the drive not only showcased the military’s teamwork but also reflected the 4ID’s strong sense of duty and service to the nation.

“This blood donation drive highlights our collective commitment to helping others, especially in times of urgent need. It’s a simple yet powerful way to contribute to saving lives and to demonstrate our unwavering support for national initiatives. The diverse range of blood types donated reflects the unity of the 4ID community in responding to the country’s healthcare needs, further underscoring the importance of health preparedness,” said Colonel Conte Jr.

In a statement, Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, also praised the dedication and selflessness of everyone involved in the blood donation event.

“Today’s event is a testament to the compassion and commitment of our troops, civilian staff, and dependents. It exemplifies the 4ID’s mission to serve and protect the Filipino people, not only through defense but by directly helping save lives. By donating blood, our soldiers take an extraordinary step toward saving lives and making a profound impact on those in need. Together, let us raise awareness of the importance of blood donation. Every bag of blood you donate can save up to three lives. Be a donor, save a life, and become a hero,” Major General Cuerpo II said.

The blood donation drive is a vital initiative for the National Blood Services, ensuring that hospitals and patients in need receive the critical blood supplies necessary for emergencies and medical procedures. This drive embodies the core values of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) — service, patriotism, and excellence — by engaging the military community in contributing to the health and well-being of the nation.
