BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte –The 23rd Infantry “Masigasig” Battalion (23IB) actively participated in the simultaneous tree planting, clean-up drive, mass feeding, and distribution of food packs activities in partnership with Agusan del Norte Police Provincial Office (ADN-PPO), Police Community Affairs Division Unit held on 06 May, 2021 at the coastal area of Barangay Abilan, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
The said activity was joined by council members of Abilan headed by Barangay Chairperson Marianie Balansag; PMaj. Jennifer S. Ometer, the Deputy Chief Police Community Affairs Department Unit of ADN-PPO; and the Masigasig Troopers led by 2Lt. Angel Grace M. Sebelina (INF) PA, Assistant Civil Military Operations Officer.
A total of two hundred (200) non-fruit bearing trees were planted during the activity that was followed by a cleanup drive and the distribution of food packs to the locals as the unit’s social responsibility which was also participated in by the police as part of the Joint PNP-AFP CMO activities.
Chairperson Balansag expressed her appreciation to those who participated in the activity and emphasized the importance of preserving nature that will benefit the next generations.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Julius Cesar C. Paulo (INF) PA, the Commanding Officer of 23IB lauded the success of the BARANGAYanihan in Abilan and emphasized the unit’s continuing support to the activity.
“Our all-out support to the BARANGAYanihan Program is continuing and strengthened as part of our commitment, not only in giving security to the people of Agusan del Norte but also preserving our pristine environment to mitigate the looming effect of Climate Change. The state of the environment where our people resides whether or not in their community will thrive in the advent of climate change that is being experienced worldwide; and this activity of working with other government agencies and other stakeholders in preserving the environment is just an affirmation of the army’s commitment in its role in nation-building,” Paulo said.
