Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur – Edgar Dagpin y Dobrea alias Adel, Vice Commander of Former Guerilla Front 8 (FGF8), Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) voluntarily abandoned his 21 years of futile struggle on July 19, 2021 bringing three AK47 rifles and 11 pieces of steel magazines.
Alias Adel, a former CTG leader laid down his arms when he noticed that his 21 years armed struggle seemed going nowhere but continued to prevent progress and destroy the future of the youths. Physical exhaustion, weakened party leadership, and dwindling mass bases contributed to his decision to yield to the government and be with his son. He also realized that being a Communist NPA Terrorist only made his life more miserable.
“Sa akong mga kanhi na kauban nga nagpadayon nga naglihok sa armadong pakigbisog naglaum ako nga mobalik na kamo sa sabakan sa atong panggamhanan samtang dili pa ulahi ang tanan. Dili na ninyo paaboton nga adunay mahitabo kaninyo nga daotan samtang nagpadayon kamo sa pagsuporta sa walay hinungdan nga pakigbisog batok sa atong gobyerno, aron matabangan nato ang atong pamilya ug anak (Sa mga dati kung kasama na patuloy sa loob ng armadong pakikibaka, hinahangad ko na magbalik-loob na kayo sa ating gobyerno hangga’t maaari, huwag na ninyong hintayin na may masama pang mangyari habang patuloy kayo lumalaban at sumusuporta sa walang dahilang pakikibaka laban sa ating gobyerno upang matulungan natin ang ating pamilya at mga anak),” he added
BGen Allan Hambala, Brigade Commander of the 401st Infantry (Unite N’ Fight) Brigade (401Bde) heartily welcomed and expressed his admiration to the troops who helped Adel to lay down his arms and join the mainstream.
“Nalipay ako nga sa katapusan gibiyaan ni Adel ang armadong kalihukan ug naamgohan nga nagsunud siya sa walay hinungdan nga pakigbisog ug iyang gipili nga magpuyo nga malinawon nga kinabuhi uban ang iyang anak. Aduna na usab kita nahatagang usa pa ka higayon ug paglaum nga mausab ang kinabuhi nga giguba sa NPA. Naglaum kami nga daghang mga myembro sa NPA ang mosunod sa iyang mga tunob tungod kay nahibal-an namo nga wala sila’y laing kapadul-an, nakigbisog sila sa bukid, gikapoy sila ug gigutom. (I’m glad that Adel finally left the armed movement and realized that he was following a futile cause and chose to live a peaceful life with his son. We were able to give him another chance and hope to start a new life destroyed by the NPA. We are hoping that more NPA members will follow his footsteps, abandon an irrelevant ideology and be productive citizens of our country.
Alias Adel will be enrolled in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) the government intervention program for former rebels.
