Army troops seize arms cache, recover two (2) high-powered firearms in Surigao del Sur

SAN MIGUEL, Surigao del Sur – Troops of the 75th Infantry “Marauder” Battalion seized two (2) high-powered firearms (HPFAs) while conducting focused-military operations at vicinity Sitio Andap, Brgy Mahaba, Marihatag, Surigao del Sur on January 18, 2023.

The seizure of the arms cache which contained two (2) 7.62 AK47 rifles and five (5) magazines with sixty-nine (69) live ammunition was made possible through the revelation and cooperation of the Former Rebel (FR) who surrendered to this unit. The FR’s cooperation only showed his whole-hearted support to the peace and development effort of the government, total renunciation of the communist ideology and desire for genuine peace.

Lieutenant Colonel Jelson D Buyuccan, Commanding Officer of 75IB conveyed his appreciation to the FR and troops of this unit for their dedication towards lasting peace in Surigao del Sur. “The Philippine Army will continue to serve the people and support the programs of the government in order for us to attain inclusive peace and sustainable development particularly to the former conflict-affected areas (ConAas) and far-flung communities in Surigao del Sur,” Lt. Col. Buyuccan said.

“The 75IB and the different government agencies are in collaboration towards the campaign to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC). I wish to convey the government’s message of reconciliation to the remaining members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), there is still a chance to lay down your arms and return to the folds of law. Avail the Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and live a peaceful live together with your family.” Lt. Col. Buyuccan concluded.
