4ID Capacitates Troops through Combat Leadership Enhancement Program 2023

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, through the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Education, G8, successfully conducted the annual Combat Leadership Enhancement Program (CLEP) 2023 from August 29 to September 7, 2023, held at 4ID Headquarters, Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City.

The said program includes the Company Commanders Symposium (CCS), Platoon Leaders Combat Proficiency Symposium (PLCPS), and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Leadership Symposium. With the theme “Sustaining the Gains against Threats through Army Leadership Excellence”, the program was designed to empower participants to become responsive and effective leaders in their respective units and offices.

Thirty (30) Senior Non-Commissioned Officers attended the 3-day Senior NCO Leadership Symposium from August 29 to 31; seventy-seven (77) Company Commanders underwent the 5-day CCS from August 28 to September 1; and forty-four (44) Platoon Leaders participated in the 3-day PLCPS from September 5 to 7. All participants came from different line units under 4ID and participated via physical and Video Teleconferencing (VTC).

During the event, a series of lectures and small group discussions were facilitated by OG8 led by Lt. Col. Julius Cesar Paulo through various military and civilian subject matter experts. This enhances participants’ tactical competence and combat effectiveness by sharpening their leadership skills, strengthening decision-making abilities, and gaining a better understanding of the operational environment in order to come up with rational decisions during combat missions as well as administrative functions.

In his message during the Closing Ceremony, Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of 4ID, stated that the symposia are one way of ensuring that company commanders, senior NCOs, and platoon leaders are operationally ready and capable of performing their tasks with excellence, professionalism, and discipline. He added that the training provides a platform for participants and serves as a guide for them to learn, grow, prepare for the challenges they may face, and make the right decisions on their operational and administrative tasks and functions amid a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) operational environment.

It can be noted that the Combat Leadership Enhancement Program 2023 was implemented by the OG8 of the Philippine Army in collaboration with the Army Learning and Development Center, Training and Doctrine Command (ALDEC, TRADOC).
