Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, pinned the Military Merit Medal (MMM) to ten (10) personnel from one of 4ID’s Special Recon Teams in a simple ceremony during his field visit at the Battalion Headquarters in Butuan City on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Said troops, which comprised one (1) officer and nine (9) Enlisted Personnel, showed extraordinary acts of gallantry and valor in combating the communist terrorist group (CTG) in Brgy. Maitum, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur last week, which resulted in the capture of six (6) high-powered firearms and numerous war materiel, including Anti-Personnel Mines (APMs) which were pressure-detonated, medical and food supplies, and personal belongings of CPP NPA Terrorists (CNTs).
Maj. Gen. Cuerpo II expressed his deep admiration for the unwavering courage, dedication, and selflessness of the troops in the face of adversity, contributing significantly to the 4ID’s ongoing campaign to combat the atrocities and exploitaion committed by the CTG and finally end local communist armed conflict in Caraga and Northern Mindanao.
