58IB, LGU intensify youth empowerment in Misamis Oriental

CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – The 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Balingasag, Misamis Oriental has intensified its campaign in empowering the youth through the conduct of series of school symposium on October 13-14, 2023.

A total of 936 students from San Juan National High School, San Isidro National High School, Samay Integrated School, Linabu Integrated School and Quezon Integrated School participated in the said activity.

During the series of symposium, several topics which involve the youth were discussed such as communist terrorist group (CTG) deception and recruitment, Teenage pregnancy, Illegal Drugs, Criminality, VAWC, Anti-Bullying Law, the Executive Order 70 and the anti-Terrorism Law.

The activity was highlighted with a film-showing pertaining to CTG recruitment and distribution of leaflets regarding CTG tactics, EO70 and Army Recruitment Process.

In his statement, Lieutenant Colonel Christian C. Uy, Commanding Officer of the 58IB said this initiative aims to shed light on the challenges posed by the recruitment efforts of the CTG to the youth.

“The 58IB recognizes the importance of youth empowerment and education in countering extremist ideologies. By equipping the student sector with the necessary knowledge and awareness, the Philippine Army can encourage them to make informed decisions and avoid being recruited by the CTG. Ultimately, this will promote peace and security in the country and to safeguard the youth as contributor of nation-building,” he added.
