CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division has kicked off its festive celebration of the Yuletide season by conducting Palarong Pinoy 2023 held at the 4ID Grandstand today, December 1, 2023.
The Palarong Pinoy refers to a variety of traditional Filipino games and sports that hold cultural significance and have been enjoyed for generations. Said activity aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among Diamond troopers as part of a society that promotes cultural sports preservation contributing to the over-all peace and nation building efforts in the region.
Six (6) teams participated in the games composed of 4ID officers led by 4ID Commander Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, the Enlisted Personnel and the Civilian Human Resource who actively played in the Sack Race, Tug of War, Obstacle Race, Dodge Ball and Patintero.
Eventually, the Blue team led by its Team Manager Lt. Col. Reynald Romel A. Goce, the Assistant Chief of Staff for CMO of 4ID was declared as the overall champion and received the highest cash prize.
Maj. Gen. Cuerpo II congratulated the participating teams and highlighted the significance of the event by making the young generation of soldiers understand their roots and embrace the spirit of Filipino traditions and camaraderie, having a pivotal role in maintaining lasting peace and inclusive development in Caraga and Northern Mindanao region.
Furthermore, as the Christmas Season approaches, he encouraged the Diamond troopers to reflect on themselves and cherish the importance of celebrating the season.
“As we celebrate this season, let’s pray and keep in our hearts the true meaning of Christmas. This is the time for us to reflect on the significance of our roles in safeguarding our nation. As we continue to serve our families and the communities, may we remain committed to our duties and strengthen our resolve during this festive season,” Maj. Gen. Cuerpo II added.
