Army Troopers hold Youth Leadership Summit in Surigao del Norte

PLACER, Surigao del Norte – The Philippine Army’s 30th Infantry (Fight On) Battalion (30IB) under the operational control of the 901st Infantry (Fight ‘Em) Brigade conducted a 3-day Provincial Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) from December 15 to December 17 at the TESDA Provincial Community Training Center, Brgy. Bad-as, Placer, Surigao del Norte.

In line with the Philippine Army’s objective of preventing the youth from the influence of radicalization and recruitment from the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs), a 3-day provincial YLS was initiated by the troops of the 30IB under the leadership of LTC JEROLD H JALE in collaboration with the provincial government of Surigao del Norte and   the active participation of youth volunteers who served as facilitators from the Propelling Our Inherited Nation Through The Youth (POINTY) INC. – Surigao del Norte Chapter. The said summit was attended by a total of 61 youth participants composed of 31 Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and 30 non-IPs coming from the different barangays and municipalities in the mainland of Surigao del Norte.

COL ARSENIO DC SADURAL MNSA (INF) PA, Commander, 901st Infantry (Fight ‘EM) Brigade graced the closing ceremony on December 17, Sunday at 3pm as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. In his message, he gave emphasis on the vision and overall objective of the activity saying, “The YLS has come to existence when the Philippine Army sees the necessity to engage the youth and encourage their active involvement to become responsible citizens and advocates of the government’s peace and development initiatives, with the vision “a transformed and empowered youth fulfilling their roles in building a morally and spiritually upright society”.

“In this room, I see young people with a lot of potentials, aspirations, intelligence and passion that could contribute much towards the resolution of problems and pressing issues that our country faces nowadays. We in the Armed Forces of the Philippines will continue to work with you as our partners in peace building because our partnership has been proven effective in shielding or preventing our youth from the influence of radicalization by the communist terrorists group. Working together for peace and development, we can make a big difference”, COL SADURAL said in his concluding statement.
