4ID rescues 35 Stray Dogs at Demolished sites inside Camp Evangelista Military Reservation

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The troops of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army rescued 35 stray dogs from the demolition sites in Camp Evangelista Military Reservation, Cagayan de Oro City on July 7, 2024.

This initiative was part of the ongoing clearing operations by the 4th Installation Management Battalion, following the demolition of informal settler (IS) houses from June 18 to 24, 2024.

Working closely with the Cagayan de Oro City Veterinary Office and Loving Home for Strays, a non-governmental organization, the 4IMB personnel patrolled the demolition sites and successfully located and rescued distressed and abandoned dogs. Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, Commander of 4ID, emphasized the importance of compassion and the duty soldiers have in protecting not only people but also the welfare of local abandoned pet animals.

“We are dedicated to safeguarding not only our people but also these needy pet animals, offering them a second chance of life. Our goal is to provide relief to the vulnerable pet animals displaced and abandoned by the owners and informal settlers after the demolition. Rescued pet animals will receive immediate medical attention, nourishment, and new homes to ensure their safety and well-being,” MGen. Cuerpo said.

He further assured that 4ID remains committed to supporting local communities and wildlife, reflecting their dedication to service and protection. This initiative exemplifies 4ID’s proactive role in ensuring the welfare of all inhabitants, human and animal alike, especially during times of distress.
