Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City – The 10th Regional Community Defense Group (10RCDG), Reserve Command (RESCOM), Philippine Army hosted a 4-day Signal Operations and Leadership Development Training with the Guam and Hawaii National Guards (GUNG/HING) at its Headquarters inside Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City from July 10 to 14, 2024. This event emphasizes the commitment to strengthen the country’s reserve force.
Major General Joel Alejandro S Nacnac, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs, J9, AFP, graced the opening ceremony as Keynote Speaker. At the same time, Captain Kuramitsu Iwanaga of the US Army, Officer in Charge of the GUNG Training Staff, represented the Guam National Guard. Upon their arrival, MGen. Nacnac and the GUNG/HING delegates paid a courtesy call to 4ID Commander MGen. Jose Maria R Cuerpo II at the Administrative Building of 4ID.
The training is part of the State Partnership Program (SPP) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in collaboration with the Guam and Hawaii National Guards (GUNG/HING). The SPP activities are designed to equip and provide participants with knowledge and skills in personnel management, personnel readiness, and humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) operations.
Forty (40) Regular and Reservist Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers from the Philippine Army, Air Force, Navy, and Technical and Administrative Services actively engaged in the training activity, demonstrating their commitment to excellence and readiness.
The activity involved exchanges of subject matter experts between AFP personnel and the Guam and Hawaii National Guards. The focus was on Signal Operations and Leadership Development. Participants learned basic military communication, which is essential for coordinating movements, relaying commands, and ensuring situational awareness. Moreover, through this training, participants acquired the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to become effective leaders.
In a statement, Maj. Gen. Cuerpo highlighted the critical role of SPP training activities in building and sustaining a resilient reserve force vital to our national security. Furthermore, he emphasized that through collaboration, both parties can develop new skill sets and gain valuable insights into the broader operational landscape.
