Army captures high-powered firearm in Surigao del Sur Clash, calls on remaining CTG members to surrender

PLACER, Surigao del Norte – Troops of the 36th Infantry Battalion (36IB) under the operational control of the 901st Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army, have successfully captured a high-powered firearm during an encounter with the remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group’s (CTG’s) Dismantled Guerrilla Front 30 (DGF30) in the remote hinterlands of Barangay Calatngan, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur on the afternoon of September 6, 2024.

The armed engagement resulted in the capture of one (1) high-powered firearm and a backpack containing personal belongings, marking another significant milestone in the 36IB’s relentless pursuit of the remaining DGF30 members. It is worth noting that on April 26, most of its members surrendered to the 36IB, including Joel Mahinay, also known as Nicko, Deputy Secretary and his wife, along with 12 high-powered firearms, which led to the immediate dismantling of the guerrilla front which was a major blow to the group’s capability to operate in the area.

“Remnants of CTGs are trying to evade our operations, but they are less likely to survive. With our focused military operations and relentless pursuit, their only option is to surrender. We call on the remaining CTG members to surrender, avail the Enhanced

Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP), reunite with their families, and reintegrate into society away from danger”, Brigadier General Arsenio Sadural, Commander of the 901st Brigade, said.

The government’s ECLIP offers former CTG members a chance to start anew. Through this program, they can receive livelihood and financial assistance, skills training, to help them reintegrate into society, build a better life free from the dangers of armed conflict. The 901st Brigade reiterates its commitment to eradicating insurgency in the area, paving the way for a more peaceful and stable Surigao del Sur.
