CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental – Operating troops of the 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion under the operational control of 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade encountered members of the New People’s Army (NPA) at Brgy Mananum Daan, Medina, Misamis Oriental on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
In a relentless Intense Military Operation (IMO) launched by this unit, the troops engaged in a 10-minute sporadic firefight against more or less 10 CPP-NPA Terrorists (CNTs) believed to be the remaining armed elements of SR SDG Eagles, SRC1, NCMRC at vicinity Mananum Daan, Medina. The troops recovered backpacks containing supplies and potential intelligence materials and captured one (1) wounded CNT upon pursuit operation. The wounded NPA was immediately given first aid by the troops and was brought to nearest medical station. Likewise, on August 16, 2024, combat group of this unit was able to recover one (1) M16 rifle in a separate encounter in Brgy Bal-ason, Gingoog City.
The engaged troops conducted clearing and pursuit operation against the withdrawing enemies.
Throughout the years, the unit was able to dismantle guerrilla fronts and neutralized high-value leaders leading to the weakening of the group and attest that the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) is at the brink of extinction.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Christian C Uy, Commanding Officer 58IB, once again lauded the troops for their perseverance in looking for the remaining enemy to deny them from doing terroristic acts and imposing fear to the community. He also underscored the importance of collaboration between the local populace and stakeholders in the accomplishment of the mission.
“Our relentless combat operations these past days shows our commitment to pursue this group and end their criminal agenda. They are currently outnumbered and on survival mode, which has greatly increased our determination to locate the remaining members of SR SDG Eagles who are present in our area of operation,” LTC Uy said.
“I urge everyone to partake in our campaign to end this decade long insurgency in our area. We urge our populace to report any information that could lead to the location of CNTs in the area,” LTC Uy added.
The 58IB continues to conduct security measures in the area and also intensify its Information Education Campaign (IEC) about the threat situation and whereabouts of the enemy in an effort to shed light on the alarming issues the enemy brings to the community.
